Munich Airport, always at the forefront of technological innovation, recently introduced smart baggage trolleys to enhance the passenger experience. This leap into the digital age ensures travelers enjoy a seamless and convenient journey right from the moment they step into the terminal.
Gone are the days when passengers hurriedly shuffle through papers or apps for flight information. With the introduction of these high-tech trolleys, equipped with tablets, passengers can simply input their flight details or scan their boarding pass. In return, they are immediately updated with real-time flight information and other essential details.
But that's not all. The tablet doesn’t just serve flight updates. It doubles as a digital directory. Looking for a bite to eat or want to do some last-minute shopping? Passengers can easily select facilities, be it shops or restaurants, and be guided with a comprehensive map throughout the terminal. And based on where they are, they can even receive exclusive location-based offers.
Best of all, for the convenience it provides, using the smart baggage trolley doesn’t burn a hole in the pocket. It's free! You can find these modern marvels in Terminal 2, after the security check and right before the duty-free zones.
This isn't just another airport upgrade. This is a pioneering endeavor, marking a six-month pilot project in Terminal 2, in collaboration with the Danish developer company, Intelligent Track Systems (ITS). What makes it truly distinctive is ITS’s “click-on” solution, a first of its kind across the globe, which involves integrating interactive displays on the existing trolleys.
Dr. Jan-Henrik Andersson, Chief Commercial Officer of Munich Airport, elucidated the significance of this project: “Digitalisation doesn’t always have to happen in the background. These tablets help our guests find their way around the terminal while ensuring they can always keep an eye on the latest flight information. By bridging the gap between the digital and the analogue world, it will undeniably add real value for our passengers.”
Morten Pankoke, CEO at ITS, highlighted another benefit of the tablets. “Often, in the hurry of catching a flight, passengers might overlook retail offers. But with these tablets, they can view deals and promotions, as well as calculate the time required to reach their gate. Hence, if time allows, they're more likely to explore store offers.”
